With their backs against the wall after five consecutive defeats, the Paris Musketeers delivered when it mattered most. Focused, efficient and in control throughout the game, Jack Del Rio’s men claimed a convincing 33-12 victory on the road against the Tirol Raiders. The win secures Paris fourth place in the regular-season standings and, most importantly, a spot in the EFA Big 4.
There was little room left for calculation. After five straight losses and a particularly difficult second half of the season, Paris needed to get back to winning ways to secure its place in the playoffs. Facing a Raiders team riding the momentum of two consecutive victories, the Musketeers rediscovered the efficiency that had been missing in recent weeks.
Paris set the tone on its opening possession. Zach Edwards orchestrated a balanced drive before connecting with Hugo Tekedam on a short pass. The Paris receiver broke free from the Austrian defense and raced into the end zone to open the scoring (0-7). It was exactly the start the Musketeers needed.
While the Paris defense kept Kenyatte Allen and the Raiders in check, helped by a missed Tirol field goal, the Musketeers' offense continued to produce. Dean Faithfull extended the lead to ten points before Edwards connected with Torin Justice, who came down with the ball in the end zone for Paris' second touchdown of the afternoon (0-16).
Tirol finally responded just before halftime through Marco Schneider, but Paris headed into the locker room with a ten-point advantage (6-16) and, more importantly, a level of overall control rarely seen from the Musketeers in recent weeks. Three of Paris' first four offensive possessions resulted in points.
The turning point came immediately after halftime. The Raiders quickly drove inside the Paris 30-yard line, but the Musketeers' defense forced the ball loose. Yani Gouadfel recovered the fumble and returned it deep into Tirol territory, handing the offense excellent field position.
Paris immediately capitalized. Edwards connected with Torin Justice once again, allowing the receiver to score his second touchdown of the afternoon and extend the Musketeers' lead to 23-6.
Tirol briefly kept its hopes alive when Felix Kantner cut the deficit to 12-23, but unlike the first meeting between the two teams, when Paris had needed a remarkable final five minutes to turn the game around, the Musketeers never lost control.
Nicolas Khandar broke loose for a huge gain before Edwards found Hassan Dosso for the touchdown that effectively put the game beyond Tirol's reach (12-30). Forced to take more risks in an attempt to mount an unlikely comeback, the Raiders then struggled against increasing pressure from the Paris defense, which forced another turnover. Dean Faithfull eventually put the finishing touch on the victory with a late field goal: 12-33.
After several difficult weeks, the Musketeers returned to winning ways when it mattered most. With four offensive touchdowns, a defense capable of forcing turnovers at crucial moments and Zach Edwards delivering four touchdown passes, Paris produced a complete performance to punch its ticket to the Big 4.
Finishing fourth in the regular-season standings, the Musketeers can now turn their attention to the playoffs. And a huge challenge awaits: the Nordic Storm, a team that has already defeated Paris twice this season, will stand in their way next week.
But the regular season now belongs to the past. In the playoffs, a new story begins.
